Mikel Is At The Mercy Of Desire In Debut EP ‘Toxic’

Forged from surefire elements which have been instrumental in seeing the rise of top gunners in the music scene today, Mikel is ready to take his rightful slice and place amidst all the action with his Official debut EP titled ‘Toxic’.

Born, Michael Eguahon, ‘Mikel’ has been refining his songwriting skills since 2010, the rising star has been appraised by major artists and producers such as Spellz, Ceeza Milli, and Wizkid over the years.

Since the release of his single, ‘Peku’ in 2019 which was funded by Mr. Eazi’s music initiative Empawa100, Mikel has acquired a taste for the freedom that comes with breaking out into recognition. After winning the grant, he said, “I no longer play guitar on the streets to survive, wishing I could be an artist,” he says. “Now I actually get to be one.” True to his words, he went on to amass over 300k streams across all platforms shortly after.

Undoubtedly an attempt to draw himself up by his bootstraps; TOXIC the EP embodies a journey of self-discovery exploring affection, lust, and all such games between lovers while giving room for vulnerability to come up to the surface. The first track “Heart On My Sleeve” is a raw confession of where his head is at; honesty and longing with strings exclusively reserved for bondage and never drama.

Expressive with a lyrical grip drawing you from the first song to the last, Mikel experiments with various styles such as reggae, afro-pop, and jazz which he undoubtedly hones. On another track, “LaLa”, Mikel is at ease boldly settling into his rhythm confidently and clearly.

LaLa is a jam that leaves vibrating along to its Afro beats and Amapiano timbres. With his Debut EP, Mikel is set to cleanse the palates of his listeners ushering all into the story he plans to tell.
