Artiste on the rise, Morenike Mojisola Olayemi ,otherwise known in the entertainment industry as Marenikae, further explores her self-pioneered ‘Afro-Merge’ genre by releasing the music video for her latest single, “As I Be”. The music video, which was released on the 29th of January, 2023, was directed by Olu the Wave. The visuals is an Afro-futurist project that captures Marenikae in a new, creative light and showcases her dynamism and the depths of her creativity.
‘As I Be’, prepares listeners for her upcoming EP, titled “Acquired Taste”, where she focuses on refining her sound and reaching the African diaspora on a deeply personal level, with sounds rooted in a traditional black and Nigerian style.
Marenikae writes, arranges and vocally produces all of her own music, and uses her unique sound and quirky writing ability tinged with Nigerian humor as a way of expressing her various identities as a Black, Immigrant, Nigerian woman.
One could say the Canadian based artiste journey into music is pre-destined, as the gifted singer stems from a musically inclined family. ‘As I Be’ is only just the second single off her forthcoming project to be released. Her previous single, ‘Deliverance(Na So)’ was equally embedded with music visuals.
