Upper Spotlight: Ayanfe Olarinde

Hey upper fam, welcome to another spotlight week. This week, we shine light on a young, gifted, creative and amazing lady.

Meet Ayanfe Olarinde , a self taught multimedia visual artist. She is a graduate of microbiology from the prestigious University of Lagos(UNILAG), where she graduated in 2018. Her quest into art started from her love for scribbling. A process where she got to express her emotions in playful and intriguing ways.

Over the years, Ayanfe’s ways of expressing herself has evolved from her cradle scribbling days, as the artist has ventured into photography and mixed media collages. Ayanfe’s underlying theme through her works is centered on the interrogation of society and governance.

Through her scribbling, she finds bliss in crooked lines which has become a skillset forged from the heat of frustration along the path to self-discovery, she has turned her art into something meaningful; which she believes relates to life and it’s ability to create beauty out of imperfection.

Ayanfe has participated in multiple group exhibitions, and her works have been written in publications such as NowThis News, CNN, Euro news, Konbini, and RADR Africa to name a few.

Ayanfe is a heavy explorer who is always seeking new means of expression. She also gains inspiration from music, personal experience and society. Asides from being friends with musical act, YKB, she is a super fan and cheers him at any given opportunity.

Ayanfe aims, through her art, to advocate for the marginalized, raise awareness, and impact the society for good.
