This week, we focus on one of Nigeria’s finest DJs. I’ll give you a hint “When you’re big..”
Meet Temisan Ajufo, fondly known as Dj Big N. He is one of Nigeria’s best and most influential DJs and the in-house DJ for powerhouse label, Mavin Records. His impact on the afro beats can be dated to over a decade.
His career kicked off in the UK. Playing at local clubs in West Midlands, and later made guest appearances in some of the biggest clubs in Coventry; all culminating in his performance at the Nigerian Independence in Coventry in 2009.
On his return to his homeland, he has been made the official DJ for various events in the country like the Nigerian centenary event in Abuja in January, The Jarule and Ashanti show in Lagos, in October 2014. He further went on to join mavin records in 2014 as Dr. Sid’s official DJ. Big N went on to be the official DJ for the Mavin UK tour, the official DJ for Tiwa Savage’s first American tour, and recently the official DJ for Rema’s Rave and Roses world tour.
Dj Big N’s skill is beyond the turntable. He is the hands and ears behind some of Afrobeats’ best mixtapes. Some of his collaborations are with acts like Rema, Wizkid, Kizz Daniel, Don Jazzy, Mr. Eazi, Dr. Sid, Tiwa Savage, and Burna Boy amongst others.
One thing DJ Big N is also appreciated for is his determination to help break new artists. All through his career, he has never shied away from associating himself with the crafts of new acts.
In 2021, he was recognized as the best DJ in Africa at AFRIMMA Some of Big N’s recognitions are City People’s Music Award, Beatz Award, and The Nigerian choice award amongst others.
With his assured roots and his powerful imprint on Afrobeats’ nightlife, DJ Big N is set to reintroduce the scene to his sonic abilities in 2023 as he prepares for one of the industry’s most anticipated tapes.
