Upper Quintet: Featuring, Kold Af, Winny, Kaychuba…

In this edition of our new editorial series aimed at supporting fast-rising and underground acts; The Upper Quintet– we feature Winny, Kaychuba, Kold Af, Ehyo, and Kingjayystack.



Kold AF




Kold Af is an ultra-talented emerging act whose professional career began in 2020. The fast and rising singer thrives on a sonic fusion characterized by Rhythm and Blues, Dancehall, and Afro-pop music. In recent times, Kold Af has been short-listed by a handful of publications as one of the promising acts to look out for; a perk that has come by virtue of what she brings to the table sonically and also by virtue of her formidable working relationship with Talent Manager and music executive, Excel Joab. Her recent body of work titled, ‘Kold Szn’ is a sonic appetizer that has been lauded by many critics for its distinct yet familiar curations.

WINNY




Benin-bred, Winifred Ohilli Adanu is a vocal powerhouse. The gifted vocalist/ songwriter is fast making an impression with her self-titled Extended play debut, ‘Winny’. Winny first gained considerable traction with her self-aware-themed single, ‘Pretty’- the slow-metered bop showcased originality and vulnerability often amiss in Nigerian pop renditions coupled with her vocal dexterity, balance, and control- qualities that are present In her recent oeuvre.

KAYCHUBA




Kaychuba is a budding yet extremely gifted Nigerian singer-songwriter who studied music and creative arts at Babcock University. Kaychuba’s distinctive tenor gives him an edge, as his vocal texture is unique, and not often does a Nigerian singer sound as he does- a soft, relaxed tone that sometimes gravitates into countryside timbres. His 2020 song ‘Ogbanje’ won the hearts of many.

Kingjayystack



KingJayy is one of Nigeria’s fast-rising New Age Rappers, taking Rap to the next level. Born in Lagos, Nigeria -He discovered his love for music at the early age of 10 and that influenced his hip-hop sound. With time, he started getting influenced by more sounds like Afro-fusion, Trap, and R&B. Kingjayy officially launched his career in 2018 after he dropped a Dancehall song titled, “Pon Me” ft Chapi Sway. KingJayy currently holds the stand as one of the Top 50 rappers in Lagos state on the Hennessy VS class 2022. Kingjayy’s recent body of work is titled, ‘Long Overdue’.

Ehyo




Asagba Ayo, a.k.a EhYo, is an independent singer and songwriter born and based in Lagos, Nigeria. His sound can be defined as a mix of Afrobeats, pop, and RnB, but he likes to think he is an Afro-life artiste with influences from Chris Brown, Drake, Davido, and Wizkid to name a few. EhYo has been into music since childhood, but really began taking it seriously in university. He has worked on his craft over the years and has put out very interesting releases, including his latest single ‘Dance Again’ (ft. Trilogy).
