Her recent earworm, ‘Underwater’ was Co-written by Ebun Yele and collaborator Sunsetdrver who also produced the track. Underwater is a song about a relationship that is no longer giving you what you need- It’s about being freed from suffocating companionship, honesty, and reminding oneself to not stay in a situation that is only suitable for one person. Underwater is already been praised for its raw emotion and heartfelt message, quickly becoming a fan favorite. Underwater is rich in production with a pulsating beat and memorable chorus.
Directed by Lutch, the video is a sleek representation of what’s to come from the artist. ‘I wanted to showcase myself in a way that people knew who I was and could be identifiable. I chose braids and artistic styling to showcase my Nigerian roots. My outfits were inspired by the song. One look in gold chains to symbolize being captured, we had Myler sheets to create a water effect on me, and then interesting styling to show my creative side.
Before releasing her debut, Ebun sang backing vocals for various Nigerian artists, most notably for CKay on his European tour. With a number of new singles for release this year Ebun continues to carve out her own unique sound and style. She is poised to become a major force in the Nigerian music industry and beyond, with more singles to be released this year.
For a debut release, it really shows what’s to come from such a new artist.
