Upper Spotlight: G’aza

G’aza born Abdulkabir Mohammed is a young Nigerian multi disciplinary artist originally from Surulere, Lagos State born to a Hausa father and a Yoruba mum. He immersed himself with music through dance. As a kid, he  familiarized himself with rhythms and flows on the dance floor and would win dance competitions at parties.

Professionally, his debut EP, “SCATTERBRAINED” established him as a standout artist with a knack for genre fusing, meditative storytelling and addictive melodies. With previous songs on his discography like SABI DEM(I’M TRYING) , P4W and FLU, G’aza further stretches his discography with the release of a new song titled ‘ Hold Up’.

“HOLD UP” which features Nigerian talented artist, Zilla Oaks,is a 2 minute, 41 seconds track that highlights the dark times Nigerians faced the END SARS protest and ultimately the Lekki Massacre on October 20th, 2020. This record took conscious efforts before its release as it reflects his (G’aza’s) contribution to the movement irrespective of his physical distance and Zilla Oaks featuring on this track as his allegiance to the movement that sought to limit Nigeria’s freedom of speech.
