Shun Breezy’s Artistic Stock Is On The Rise

The music scene in Nigeria is evolving every day as we see new acts pop up. One artiste whose prospect shines bright is Shun Breezy. Signed to Sony Music Entertainment West Africa,  Shun Breezy is an Afro-fusion artiste who possesses great talents and a good pen game.

His artistic stock is on the rise and can only ascend further. In this interview with the fast-rising singer, he gives full disclosure of his recent work, his hiatus from music, and what the future holds.

Shun Breezy, Who is Shun Breezy?

I’m an artiste; a singer, songwriter, and performer. I’ve been around for a while now so I’m not new to the game. I’ve got my unique style and sound, which makes me different from every other artiste out there. I’m Shun Breezy! D chosen one and D O’shun wave.

At what age did you pick an interest in music and how did it start?

I was about 11 years of age when I started lip-syncing to different types of music including Hip-Hop, R&B, Fuji, and Pop genres. I grew up in a celestial church where I was a member of the choir and even played musical instruments like the drums. I remember going to concerts organized by other churches and it was those experiences that helped contribute to my love and appreciation for good music.

How has your journey been since then?

It has not been easy at all. On some days, you have hope while on other days, that hope is tested. I can remember back then when having to record a track was such a big deal simply because there was no money to pay producers. Then sometime in the year 2012, I lost my mum and it was like my entire foundation had crumbled. My mum was my first and probably my biggest fan, and her only desire was for me to succeed. The pain and grief that I felt from losing her were what really fueled my ambition and have kept my focus in check ever since.

I saw one of your recent interviews where you mentioned that you co-wrote Davido’s In The Garden, how was the experience?

Yes, I co-wrote ‘In The Garden’ with Davido and Morravey. I mean there’s a reason we call him 001 so it definitely was an amazing experience for me. Davido is like the dream collaboration for many of us artists whether you’re singing or writing for him, so the fact that it happened for me really boosted my confidence and morale. Big shout-out to Davido, he’s a legend and a great leader I must say.

Why did you just write though and not get featured?

I think it’s a blessing that I got the opportunity to write for him, only a few of us have had such a privilege. But then again if you really look at it, I was still featured, however as a composer. So I’m hopeful that one day, I will also be featured as a vocalist.

Any other artists you’ve written for?

It’s only Davido for now.

You took a 1-year hiatus from music, what brought about that?

That was a very difficult time for me. I was dealing with some personal and work challenges. A lot was going on in the background, especially with my previous management. Funnily, I recorded a lot of music that period but I wasn’t even in the right state of mind to release anything. So I needed to take some time off and re-strategize with my label ’cause it was a time for change.

Well with the hiatus over, we’ve gotten new music with Personal. What has the general reaction been like?

For real, it’s been awesome. Normally I will be the hard guy but I’ve really been overwhelmed by how much love and reception the song is getting. Seeing how people are reacting to Personal with their comments online and the hundreds of videos on TikTok has made me realize things are aligning and it’s my time. This is the D O’shun wave I was talking about and I just want to keep going hard on it. Big ups to ma people jamming Personal.

What’s next after this, an EP maybe?

With the number of songs I’ve recorded, an EP definitely has to come out of it. But I want my people to stay surfing on D O’shun wave with 1 or 2 more hot singles and then I will give them the E.p.

Future Collaborations?

Really can’t wait to work with Burna Boy, Olamide, Chris Brown, and Tems.

Do you have any messages for your fans?

I wanna say a very big thank you to my fans all over. I love y’all and can’t wait till when we start rocking together on stages worldwide. Keep supporting and stay happy! Love forever.
